It [was] a stooone groove, my man -- burly dude, Trading Places
That's exactly how I feel about my bandmates and about the audience, during and after every Cosmic performance!
Cathy's and Christine's vocals are incredible all on their own but, when you add Lamont's smooth-yet-smoking guitar and Steve Merritt's rock-steady-yet-incendiary percussion,
I feel truly blessed (and spoiled!) to be a part of it all. We have a great time together on stage and with our audiences so, for us, it's like going to a party
where we always get to hear our favorite tunes!!
You're DEAD! -- Luther Heggs to Calver Weems, Ghost and Mr. Chicken
Nah, though I'm certainly closer to Mr. Bad News than I was when I started gigging, 37 (gulp!) years ago. I've had the good fortune to play in a wide variety of
bands, covering material that included classic, hard, allternative, and prog rock; disco, funk, R & B, and Motown; pop and top 40; jazz, big band, and standards; latin and salsa; and, reggae and ska. It's cool to play in a band
that allows me to tap into so many of the styles I've enjoyed playing before and that has such awesome vocals to energize it all. It's every
musician's dream!!!
Boards...don't hit back -- Mr. Lee to O'Hara, Enter the Dragon
Neither does a guitar when you smash it on-stage. However, when you're an income-challenged (i.e., married with kids) musician,
you're especially kind to your instruments. Accordingly, you won't see Cathy, Christine, Lamont, Steve, or me in destructive or
incendiary rants on stage. We'd much rather dance along with our audience than break stuff!! Even so, as kindly as I treat my bass, I am capriciously prone to slap, pluck, and twang it and,
thankfully, it seems to like it. Sometimes, you have to be a little cruel to be kind.
?????? -- Swedish Chef Cooking Song, The Muppet Show
You know how some band bio pages talk about the bio subject's musical influences? OK, I admit that HE was one of mine but, whatever homage I may owe to the soulful vocal stylings
of that culinary maestro, I assure you that Cosmic's vocals don't sound that way.
In fact, I'd assert that ours are somewhat better than that! Three of us have sung lead at various points in our musical careers so we all
enjoy taking turns at it when Cosmic performs. More fun yet is when four of us combine for some killer harmonies. This makes it more enjoyable for
our audience members who appreciate great vocals and who like to sing along.
I was born to love you... -- Ty Webb singing to Lacey Underall, Caddyshack
Now that is a shining example of an original song, sung with passion and conviction (and a smidgeon of tequila) by the performer. We, the members of Cosmic,
are a cover band and, though we have some original compositions carefully squirreled away (see our Hear Cosmic page if you're interested), our focus is on playing for
you - our audience - the most danceable popular rock and disco around. So, while we won't be scoring any record deals or winning any Grammys,
we excel at performing dance and party music you know -- and are happy to do it at a live music venue near you!
Tanks for nuttin'! -- Maggie to Danny Noonan, Caddyshack
How rude! Sorry - what I really meant to say was thanks for browsing our site and for reading my page! I hope you'll come out to have a good time with us
when we play. We look forward to seeing you!
