Hi! Steve Merritt, here. Welcome to my fabulous Cosmic bio page.
I've been drumming since age 10. As a senior in high school, I won the John Phillips Souza award. I went on to earn a
Bachelors in Music Performance and Education from The University of Southern Mississippi.
While at U of SM, I got to play in a number of incredible ensembles, such as a samba band, steel drum band, and in the orchestra. I was able
to travel with those ensembles, including trips abroad to England and Ireland. I studied with noted percussionist
John Wooten and was fortunate enough to play with visiting artists Itzhak Perlman and Doc Severinsen.
After returning to the Quad-Cities, I played with Jim the Mule from November, 2003 to April, 2006.
In June of 2006, I was invited by Lamont Hillier to fill-in on drums for Cosmic and, lo and behold,
I started to enjoy it very much! A few months later, I decided to trade in my "fill-in" status for a full-time ride in The Orbit.
